Hi Reader!
I was browsing through some older holiday recipes on Boulder Locavore and it reminded me how classic recipes really set the tone for the season. I'm wondering if you agree?
I thought it would be a fun time to share some you may not have thought to make.
Wassail. I'm sure you've heard the Christmas carol 'here we come a wassail-ing', well this is THAT Wassail! Wassail is a classic warm holiday drink made for a crowd. It's non-alcoholic however can easily be spiked with bourbon or rum to suit your tastes!
Homemade Eggnog (boozy). This is real eggnog a completely boozy party punch. This is straight out of my great grandmother's recipe box and based on tasting it I'm sure they must have had some festive parties around the holidays!
We also have a non-alcoholic eggnog recipe (and one for the Instant Pot too). Homemade eggnog is much lighter in texture than store bought eggnog and the flavors are better (in my opinion).
How to Roast Chestnuts. If you've had roasted chestnuts it was probably at a Christmas market or fair. But they are very easy to make at home. Roasted chestnuts are a signature of the holiday season. This easy method leaves them easy to peel and perfectly cooked.
Pecan Rum Balls. These boozy holiday Pecan Rum Balls are a sophisticated no bake treat great to serve for adults all through the holidays. A classic for holiday treat platters.
Sugar Plums. These are not at all what you'd imagine if you have gone to the Nutcracker ballet and seen the Sugar Plum Fairy. Sugar Plums are actually ground dried fruits, nuts with spices rolled in coarse sugar. A flavorful treat with strong spice flavors unusual to most deep sugary holiday sweets.

Red Velvet Cookies. These soft cookies with a chewy center have the classic cocoa flavor of red velvet. A cream cheese glaze adds a creamy, tangy flavor on top.
Chicken in White Wine Sauce. Tender, seared chicken coated in a blend of spices and tossed in a garlicky white wine sauce feels elegant enough for a dinner party, but simple enough for a weeknight dinner! You’re going to love this next-level skillet chicken.
White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies. Lightly crunchy cookie on the outside with a chewy center full of creamy white chocolate chips, crunchy macadamia nuts in a buttery cookie. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top makes them pure perfection.

Hi Reader! Pass on the green beer and make this authentic Dublin Coddle instead. It's an authentic recipe I picked up on one of my many trips to Ireland and is comfort food at its best. A simple but hearty dish of potatoes, sausage, bacon and onions that is absolutely delicious! Spoiler alert: corned beef and cabbage isn't actually an authentic Irish St. Patrick's Day dish. That's right! It was adopted as such here in the U.S. (along with green beer). But we have a slow cooker and instant pot...
